What I Believe
Campaigning for public office is one of our most time-honored American traditions. Election campaigns are when incumbents like me are required to explain and defend our decisions, to make the case for our view of governance, and to answer to voters.
Campaigns are when elected officials ask voters to either stay the course or make a change.
Election campaigns also are the time when challengers put forth their best arguments for change, why the incumbent hasn’t lived up to expectations or fulfilled promises, and why the other candidate will do better going forward.
Hopefully, you will be persuaded more by my arguments for re-election than my opponents’ arguments for making a change. This is how we do things in the United States of America. We elect our government leaders peacefully, honorably, respectfully and hopefully. This system may not be perfect, but it’s the best one I know.
I ask for your vote and support. This is my pledge to you, the voters of the 5th District and all residents of San Luis Obispo County – the only people I represent:
- I will continue to work on my and the Board of Supervisors’ priorities as they were developed through the public process.
- I will continue to listen respectfully and act responsibly.
- I will practice holistic decision making where social, economic and environmental issues are considered and balanced.
- I will make every attempt to balance the needs of today while maintaining options for future generations.
It’s been my privilege to serve as your 5th District Supervisor. I’ve met many new friends and I am deeply impressed by so many caring, energetic and intelligent people who are deeply committed to their communities. This experience gives me great hope for our shared future.
With your support, I would be honored to continue my public service. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
